What's New

This year, the Lexus IS nets a limited-edition Special Appearance Package and a new F-Sport Design midrange trim to pack in extra features at a lower price point. The Special Appearance Package is limited to 450 models and provides a blacked-out hood, a black roof, and 19-inch black wheels from Enkei. The Lexus IS 3.5-liter V-6 gives you 311 horsepower.

The Mercedes C-Class adds a high-performance variant and not much else. In fact, its coupe and convertible configurations are still based on the version from two generations ago. The Mercedes C-Class has a turbo inline-four engine that only has 255 horsepower.

Base Features

The F-Sport Design Package is the new entry-level trim for the IS and allows you to get in the Lexus at a more affordable price, offering such features as unique styling, sport-tuned suspension, automatic wipers, heated mirrors, leatherette upholstery, and 10-speaker sound. Its driver assist technology includes traffic sign reader functionality.

Mercedes' base trim level only nets you a five-speaker sound system with no traffic sign reader function and no sport suspension. In the end, you get less for your money with the Mercedes. That includes interior space, as the C-Class has just 41.7 inches of legroom for you while the IS offers 44.8 inches.

It seems clear that the winner here in features and performance is the 2023 Lexus IS.
